What is 80/10/10?
80/10/10 is a low-fat raw vegan diet with roughly 80% of calories from carbohydrate, 10% from fat and 10% from protein. Carbohydrate comes mostly from fruit. It was set out by Douglas Graham in his 2006 book of the same name.
Where the term comes from
Douglas Graham published The 80/10/10 Diet in 2006. The name refers to the three ratios at the centre of the approach.
Are the ratios by weight or calories?
By calories, not weight. This is the detail most often misread. Because fruit is not calorie dense, reaching 80% of calories from it involves a large volume of food. The 10% fat figure also excludes most nuts, seeds, avocado and oil in any quantity.
